Magatta (曲がった Bent) Cuff

This sculptural steel cuff is built from a series of intersecting planes that shift and pivot around the wrist, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. As the angles catch the light, the surface comes alive—matte black steel giving way to flashes of gold that move with the wearer. Gold is applied in two distinct ways: a rich band of 24k gold foil bonded using the ancient Keum Boo technique, and a separate plane fused with 18k gold, creating a deeper, more textural glow. These luminous elements cut through the darkened steel, emphasizing the cuff’s architectural geometry and reinforcing the dialogue between industrial and precious materials. At the center, a striking Koroit boulder opal anchors the composition, its intricate network of earthy browns, ochres, and flashes of gold echoing the surrounding metalwork while introducing an organic, almost topographical quality.
