Kagayaki (輝 Luminous) Brooch

A softly curved brooch animated by layered etching reveals a surface that feels almost tidal—marks flowing, colliding, and dissolving into one another. At its center, a bright blue-green chrysocolla rests beside an opening, a quiet pause within the motion. Fragments of 24k gold foil radiate around the vacancy, bonded to the steel using the ancient Keum Boo technique. The warmth of gold and the cool depth of the stone heighten the sense of contrast: presence and absence, color and shadow, stillness held inside movement. Measures 3" wide, 2" in height.

Care Instructions

While the jewelry has been sealed for protection, it is possible (though unlikely) that steel can rust if exposed to moisture. Store the jewelry away from moisture and avoid submerging it in any liquids. Avoid contact with perfumes, sunscreens or lotions. Occasionally rub a small amount of light oil into the surface.
