October 19-20

Day 1 Workshop 10 am-12 pm Pacific Time
Day 2 Open Studio 3 pm Pacific Time

Of all the forms of steel available, perforated steel sheet is the most exciting and interesting.  Perforated steel sheet has been stamped or punched to create different opening patterns, including circles, squares, honeycomb, slotted, octagon, expanded and more. The patterns offer an exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of design options. In this workshop, we’ll unlock the creative potential of perforated steel sheet.

You will learn to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of sourcing and ordering perforated steel sheet
  • Design pieces of jewelry that maximize the perforated steel patterns
  • Cut, form and soldering it
  • Create bezels, bails and frames with perforated steel
  • Explore different design possibilities with perforated steel
  • Combine different perforated steel patterns
  • Create basic dimensional forms with perforated steel
  • Finish edges, ends, seams and corners
  • Combine wire with perforated steel
  • Fuse non-ferrous metals to perforated steel and wire
  • Apply a heat patina to create a range of different colors including inky black
  • Seal your jewelry using a high-grade wax
